Bringing Your Car to Turkey

After becoming a property owner in Turkey you may want to settle in the country. To bring your car to Turkey, you need the following documents and complete the following processes. You need to keep in mind that the process varies from person to person from retired to student.

You can bring your car to Turkey after earning a blue card from the Turkish Touring and Automobile Union. You need to register the automobile under the residential address of: 

  • A retired citizen with a temporary residence permit 
  • A person who’s studying in Turkey
  • A person resident outside Turkish Customs who is in Turkey to carry out a specific work assignment

The Documents You Need to Bring a Car to Turkey


As a Retired foreigner

  • Your Residence Permit issues as a retiree 
  • An official document from the social security institution showing that you are a retiree 
  • Your passport and driving license (together with photocopies)
  • Registration documents for your car
  • A delivery receipt for the car (get this from the Customs Directorate)
  • A financial guarantee to ensure your potential liability if the vehicle overstays in the country

As a Foreign employee

  • Your Residence Permit for work purposes 
  • Your passport and driving license
  • A certified copy of your work permit
  • Your car’s registration documents
  • A letter from your employer addressed to the association that identifies your employment duties and duration of employment 
  • The employer company's “signature circular”, with a photocopy. This is the official document in Turkey to authenticate that the signatories are duly authorized
  • A delivery receipt for the vehicle. You can get this from the Customs Directorate
  • A financial guarantee to ensure your potential liability if the vehicle overstays in the country
  • The application form is filled in and signed by the owner of the car. You can get the application from the association’s website

As a Foreign Student

  • Your Residence Permit for education 
  • A Student Certificate, issued by the school or college, addressed to the Association
  • Your passport and driving license
  • Your car’s registration documents
  • A delivery receipt for the car. You can get this from the Customs Directorate
  • A financial guarantee to ensure your potential liability if the vehicle overstays in the country
  • The application form is filled in and signed by the owner of the car. You can get the application from the association’s website
